Tony looks up from the book he's been buried in, a little surprised - he varies wildly between being incredibly popular and incredibly unpopular, he's still trying to figure out the exact correlations to predict the two, the popularity stems from money, connections and, occasionally, whether or not Clark is currently talking to him. The unpopularity stems from the books, the smarts, and probably from trying to quantify his own popularity in a series of increasingly complex diagrams. He knows there's a trick to it, he just hasn't figured out yet what it is.
At the moment, he's been lingering in the shallows of unpopularity and he was using the time to get some studying done, but it seemed the shark was prowling where it shouldn't be and he was going to get dragged into the depths any moment...admittedly this analogy needed some work.
"...Out where?" he asked cautiously. He was already packing up his books because you don't say no to Clark, it only delays the inevitable, but he at least wants to try and figure out if he's going to hate or enjoy what's coming next.
