[Hi there! Omg yes <3 Are you thinking continuing on from whereabouts we left off or maybe skipping ahead a bit? I dimly recall us plotting how it would continue but I can't remember too many of the details]

Sorry about the late reply. Not having internet at home is a pain.

[I don't remember most of the details, either. I'd say skip ahead a little bit and plot out new stuff since neither of us can remember.]

No worries ^^

[Sounds good to me! I had a quick scan over the last thread and we ended it with Bucky offering to teach him to fight, so yea I think skip ahead to once he's had more training and stuff? I... am a little doped up on pain medication right now so I'm struggling to think lol, but maybe a training session? Or maybe Dick tried to get some info out of him at the beginning but Bucky always shut him down and he's hanging around after a training session a few months in because he's determined to get some answers?]

[I love the idea of Dick pestering Bucky after a training session! It feels so much like something that would happen. Cagey adults and curious kids always make for the best chaos.]

OK let's do this, let me know if this doesn't work for you/anything needs changed

Most of the time, Dick's ability to sneak out undetected was so hard won that he had to disappear almost as soon as his training sessions with Bucky were finished so he didn't arouse any suspicion with Steve or the other Avengers (although, he'd gotten even better at stealth since his training started), balancing time between the training sessions and his actual secret vigilante sorties had to be carefully done. This afternoon, however, he'd had a stroke of luck - Steve was out of town on a diplomatic mission and everybody else had ended up with excuses to be away as well, leaving Dick free to do his own thing. Training was over with, but now he had a different plan, something he'd been waiting on an opportunity to do since the training began.

"So..." he started, casually enough, lingering back where he'd normally be bouncing out the door (or crawling out the door when Bucky had been particularly tough on him) "How is it you know Steve again?" he's hoping the first question will take his teacher off guard, get answered before Bucky has a chance to think about it, but even if it doesn't work out that way, Dick's feeling pretty determined. He's been training with the guy for months now, he's desperate for information.

This looks great!

Bucky looked up. It was a complicated question to answer. He couldn't really remember how they met. The Smithsonian exhibit only said they'd been friends since school. Some memories have been coming back but not that one.

"I told you. He's my mission." It was only partly an evasion. Mostly, it was just covering up for what he couldn't quite remember. "Don't you need to go home before you're missed?"

Luckily for Bucky, Dick had actually yet to see the Smithsonian exhibit, although if he'd known how many of his questions would be answered by it, he wouldn't rest until he got to see it. So far, he remained oblivious.

"Nope, nobody's home so I've got plenty of time," he answered glibly, quickly moving back to his self-assigned task, given the role models all around him it was hardly a surprise he knew how to be stubborn "What do you mean your mission? What do you have to do?"

"I have to keep him safe." He sighed. That was a seven man job at the best of times. Steve had no sense of self preservation. "Even when he tries to get shot or his neck broke."

"Yea he does that sort of thing a lot," Dick agreed, Steve really did have a terrible knack for throwing himself into danger "But he is.. you know... Captain America, so... he's sort of pretty good at keeping himself safe. Who sent you to look after him?"

"I..." He sighed. Bucky knew he couldn't hide everything from the kid forever. It was just too much to hope for. But he'd hoped for longer, at least until the boy could hold his own. "I wasn't sent to look after him."

Now they were getting somewhere, Dick perked up, excited to have a little more information, of course he wasn't going to stop there.

"So you decided to look after him yourself? Why? Do you know him, does he know you?"
