Dick's heart went out to him at that look on his face, and he immediately felt guilty for mentioning it, or at least for phrasing it so poorly. He didn't know if this Jason's Bruce was, somehow, even more emotionally stunted than his own or if he was just misremembering how bad his father used to be, he'd definitely got better over the years.
He smiled fondly at the story though, nodding slightly.
"That's our Jaybird," he said softly "That's what happened here, too."
He paused for a moment to find the right words before he spoke again.
"It's not about being a step up. None of us were better or worse at being Robin, we all had our own skills." He was about to add something about their father loving them all, even if he wasn't very good at showing it, but realised he couldn't speak for the Bruce Jason knew, even if so many other things about his life seemed similar.
"Tim knew that B needed a Robin, he didn't really do well without one, and our Jason... well we didn't think he was coming back."
