Xie eyes him suspiciously, wondering what the hell kind of plan is up his sleeve before deciding he's just fine with doing this in animal form, that way Kevin can deal with whatever's going on.
It also makes a kind of sense if somebody does come after them; unless Yifu himself comes, they're going to be looking for a cat, not a scorpion.
So he sets his backpack down and shifts, climbing up on top of it to wait - though he'll move to whatever pocket Kevin suggests.
(There is a certain amount of clothing that can be included in the shift, thankfully, but a backpack is a bit much so Kevin's just going to have to take both of them)
