Like going to Hong Kong and picking a kid up off the streets, though really that didn't seem that weird when you compared it to a reanimated dead cat.
"The basics you've probably read about are true. Familiars are a source of magical power, we can't use it ourselves and we have to be bonded to a Witch for it to be used. Some Familiars are just animals, but human Familiars usually have an animal form." He explains, pausing to take a sip of his tea before he continues.
"The bond, once it's made, is... well. I'd say unbreakable but..." his gaze flicks to Kevin and he shrugs "It takes a lot to break or transfer a bond. I've heard that a familiar can break it but I don't know how, and it's supposed to be agonizing. I'm not sure what it does to the Witch when it happens. I'm not even sure if the rumours are true."
"The bond means a Witch can use the Familiar as a power source, but it has some other benefits too. You can communicate telepathically, and you can always find each other. Orders from a Witch you're bonded to are harder to disobey, not impossible, they can't force you, but it's like... instinct, to do what they say, it takes effort to resist." He avoids looking at Kevin as he says that, unsure if he already knew that or if he's going to try and use it, somehow. Or if he's going to be weird about it.
"There's more, too, things you can do if you work on strengthening the bond, things you can sense about each other. At least that's what I've heard."
Things he wanted, from Yifu, tried to work at but never quite managed.
