They are not particularly quiet voices - partly because they have no reaosn to be, but also with a subconscious knowledge that if Xie did hear them, he should know it was them, and not get scared and stab them or anything.
Unfortunately, if they intended to be heard, they could have chosen their subject more tactfully.
