"He did deserve to die." He can agree with that much, at least, it's just still a struggle to term everything that happened between him and Xie as abusive rather than just shitty.
Maybe there's still some residual loyalty that's making it hard, or maybe he really just doesn't want to think of himself as a victim at all. Either way, he doesn't like it.
