The effort of holding back his power is so much that he's almost dizzy with it, but he watches her magic sputter and fail with grim satisfaction.
What follows is a pain that would drive him to his knees if Du Pusa wasn't still holding him. It's not dissimilar to the pain of the bond being stolen, which makes sense because the bond - however new, however unpleasant - is being snapped. This time, however, it is accompanied by the unsettling feeling of death and followed by a sudden, yawning emptiness.
It dawns on him, then, that he hasn't actually been unbonded since he was a teenager, and he doesn't know if it's because it's because he's forgotten how bad it really felt, or because the circumstances of it all has exacerbated the feeling, but it's crushing.
He's pulling against Du Pusa's hold again but this time she lets him go and he moves so fast he stumbles but doesn't stop, dropping to his knees at Kevin's side, yelling - screaming, really - for him to please wake up.
Du Pusa decides now is probably the time to call an ambulance because she knows shit all about healing magic.
