Tony recognises the switch, he does it himself occasionally, it's hard not to look at the business prospects of any idea with fathers like theirs.
"It probably does. It might be possible to condense it into smaller quantities that are cheaper to produce that might provide a boost of power to existing fuel. I suspect it might actually be longer lasting than conventional fuel so if it can be created more cheaply there may be a market for it for long distance travel, ships or planes maybe... not sure about the biproducts yet..."

And yes, he sounds excited. He doesn't care if the damn thing explodes, after all.
no subject
"It...might be..." Tony starts slowly, but then he realises that Clark doesn't care, in fact he's pretty sure that excitement is down to the possibility that this might be the first test "Okay, okay, it's completely theory based, it hasn't been tested at all."
no subject
"Perfect!"
no subject
Tony couldn't help but grin back, although he was a tiny bit uneasy. He'd managed to engineer himself a situation where of the three options - it works, it explodes, nothing happens - it was the 'nothing happens' that was actually the worst case here, especially as far as Clark was concerned.
...Oh well, at least if he was going to die he'd have a sort of friend.
"How far is this place?"
no subject
He waves that off, then looks over.
"Why, you in a rush?"
no subject
"No, just curious," he shrugs it off easily. He's glad they're going to somewhere probably deserted, he wasn't entirely sure that Clark would be all that fastidious about dodging pedestrians if they were driving somewhere more populated. Sometimes it was hard to tell, with Clark, just how far his morals stretched.
"It's going to be good. I hope."
no subject
"Don't start with that nonsense. If you weren't brilliant, I wouldn't waste my time with you. It's going to be good."
He considers that for a moment, like Tony isn't even there.
"Well, you're also pretty, so I might, but I certainly wouldn't drive an hour out for it."
no subject
Tony's not blushing, really he's not, because that would be incredibly uncool and he was a cool person. He was rich and smart and driving in a fast car with his cool friend. Who thought he was pretty.
"Well I know I'm brilliant," he tried to overcompensate with arrogance "that doesn't mean it's definitely going to work."
no subject
no subject
"Well, let's just hope if it does blow up we don't have to hitch a ride home again," he laughed. Admittedly they'd probably have more serious things to worry about in the event of an explosion, but he didn't want to think about that.
no subject
He laughs and shakes his head.
"Very interesting."
no subject
"Well I was trying not to think about the danger to life and limb, thanks," he shot back dryly "It should be fine though. Should be."
no subject
He nudges him.
"If I didn't have you around to keep me occupied, why... I might just start killing people just to see if it's any fun. I've tried everything else, after all..."
Is he kidding? ...he may not be kidding.
no subject
The thing was, Tony actually believed him - not about the killing part (okay, also about the killing part, worryingly), but there was something so confident about Clark, that the world was going to be the way he wanted it and nothing was going to stop him, that it made Tony actually think Clark could/i> keep him safe, even if the car did explode.
"Well then you better keep your promise. You'd go crazy in prison."
no subject
"It's adorable that you think I'd go to prison."
no subject
[italics tag fail there sorry]
"...no, no you probably wouldn't, would you?" he shakes his head despairingly.
no subject
"Would you?"
no subject
"Go to jail for murder?" he thought about it for a second and shrugged "Probably."
no subject
"Oh, come on. Really? Really really? No, you're not that stupid. No."
no subject
"Okay," Tony conceded "Maybe I'd be smart enough to get away with it."
no subject
"There you go. Exactly. That's what I'm talking about."
He looks over at Tony, looks like he's going to say something, and then shakes his head, clearly giving up on it.
"I was almost tempted to pretend I'd brought you out here to kill you but that's just so laughable, it's not even funny. Far too high profile."
no subject
"You wouldn't want to kill me, I make your life interesting. Also, I'm pretty." As soon as he says it he doesn't know why he brought it up, it's only going to make him blush more.
no subject
A breath in and out.
"Though you're not wrong. I like you alive. And yes, pretty."
He reaches over a hand and settles it half on Tony's shoulder but also, somewhat, on Tony's throat. Around the side of his neck. Possessive. His, in languid, confident sort of way.
