He groans and flops back in his seat. They're on the open highway now.

"Oh, come on. Really? Really really? No, you're not that stupid. No."

"Okay," Tony conceded "Maybe I'd be smart enough to get away with it."

That gets a laugh.

"There you go. Exactly. That's what I'm talking about."

He looks over at Tony, looks like he's going to say something, and then shakes his head, clearly giving up on it.

"I was almost tempted to pretend I'd brought you out here to kill you but that's just so laughable, it's not even funny. Far too high profile."

"You wouldn't want to kill me, I make your life interesting. Also, I'm pretty." As soon as he says it he doesn't know why he brought it up, it's only going to make him blush more.

"Don't remind me of that when I'm trying to drive us somewhere," he says with a low chuckle. "Unless you don't mind a slight delay."

A breath in and out.

"Though you're not wrong. I like you alive. And yes, pretty."

He reaches over a hand and settles it half on Tony's shoulder but also, somewhat, on Tony's throat. Around the side of his neck. Possessive. His, in languid, confident sort of way.

Just when Tony thought he'd gotten away with keeping his cool after his own words, Clark had to go and say something like that, because there was really no mistaking what he was implying. Tony had always been curious if Clark was interested in him that way, but he'd always shaken off the little hints or implications, assuming them to just be jokes, but that was fairly unequivocal. If he'd been any doubt before, the sudden curl of warm fingers against his neck confirmed the matter quite firmly, and he could feel the colour rising in his cheeks.

"Hey, it's you that might mind the delay, I thought you wanted to see what this stuff could do," he nudged the bag containing the fuel

That gets a laugh.

"I'm always happy to get waylaid by sex."

"You assume I'd be such a hussy, maybe I'm saving myself for someone special" he joked with mock affront

He looks over, even as the car speeds neatly along the road, and he runs his thumb up the side of Tony's throat as he returns his attention to the road.

"Your heart flutters when I express interest in you. Your skin is warmer, your cheeks are flushed, but only so much as you allow since you're used to controlling that particular reaction, and I'd bet this car itself on the fact that if I offered you the chance to suck me off on the drive there, your hips would shift just at the thought."

He steadies his hand against Tony.

"...you know how to tell people to fuck themselves, Tony. And yet, here we are."

He hated that Clark could tell all that, hated it, but he couldn't deny it, not when Clark would see straight through his lies. He wanted more than anything to not react to those words but they shot straight to his groin and his hips were twitching even before Clark had finished his sentence.

He scowled.

"Maybe it's just been a while," he shot back. Or never.

He looks over at Tony with a very sly smile.

"Then you were saving yourself for me? Is that it?"

"Don't be such an ass," Tony scowled even deeper, though whether he was scowling at the accusation or at the fact Clark had pegged his lack of experience, it was hard to tell.

He laughs again and pulls his hand away from Tony to put both on the wheel, taking a turn onto a smaller, practically abandoned highway. And he pulls aside into the shoulder before turning to Tony.

"Shall we load up the fuel or did you want to do something other than pout about things before hand?"

"Let's load up the fuel and see what this thing can do, serves you right if I make you wait." He realises as soon as the words are out of his mouth that he basically just implied there was something to wait for , clearly it was not his brain doing the talking right now. At least the drive gave him time to get control of himself.

Clark grins wildly at that before tipping his head back towards the fuel supplies. He won't say a thing about Tony's little 'slip'. He doesn't need to.

"Do you need me to pull up the top? Or can we just slip it into the gas tank?"

Is there innuendo in there?

Nooooooo.

Aaaand Tony is getting out the car to give himself some space.

"It'll go in the tank, should mix with the gas in there and give us the boost we need" he calls back, heading to the gas cap.

Clark just waits in the car, letting him have his space, listening but pretending like he isn't.

"Fuck's sake Tony, keep it together," he mutters to himself, blissfully unaware that Clark can probably hear every word "you're acting like - ha - like the desperate fucking virgin I am, yea that's about right. Jesus. Okay, car."

He pours the two bottles of fuel into the tank, chucked the empty backpack back into the car and leaned in
"So, who's driving again?"

"The wheel is yours if you want it," he offers, gesturing to the driver's side and moving to get up.

"But I guarantee that my reflexes are faster than yours in case of an emergency."

He was right, of course he was, but Tony really wanted to be the one to see what his fuel could do.

"I'll do it," he decided, crossing over to the driver's side and climbing in "you ready?"

He nods, content with that, as he stands up and slides past Tony to leave him the driver's seat. Then he's slipping around to hop into the passenger side.

No fuss. No fight. But he's watching you, Tony.

"Very ready."

"Okay, let's do this." almost holding his breath, Tony revved the engine. The answering purr was initially promising, exactly what he wanted to hear. He pressed his foot down on the pedal slowly and the car leapt forward, accelerating rapidly.

The first indication that something was wrong was the faintest whine that started under the noise of the engine, but Tony was enjoying himself too much to notice.

Clark can hear it, hear the whine, and he leans back in his seat, preparing. He has a feeling the evening is going to be interesting and he's not opposed to dealing with the car exploding. It just means it'll be exceptionally interesting.

As the noise rose, Tony finally noticed it and his expression creased into a frown, he lifted his foot off the pedal a little and glanced sideways at Clark.

"Does that sound-" he started saying, but he was interrupted by the engine exploding.

A number of things happen and they happen all at once. Or they happen all at once for Tony, anyway. For Clark, they just happen one after another, his hands and body moving faster than Tony can even sense as he unhooks both of their seatbelts, opens his door, and pulls Tony free of the car, rolling around to fly them safe and cover the other boy with his own body. He can feel the explosion, the heat wash over him, destroying his clothes and if they hadn't, then the debris that patters against his back as he huddles over Tony in the desert would have ripped it to shreds.

He waits until the worst of it is done before he lets go, tilts back, and starts whooping loudly.

"That was awesome!"
