"Uh, so, I've been working really hard on this one and I can definitely say, without a doubt, that we are..uh... yea we're totally stuck. Sorry." Holtzmann winced, turning away from the rock fall she'd been inspecting and giving Erin an apologetic look.
"So, note to self, no proton shotguns in old fallout shelters, they cause cave ins. We know that now, so that's good, right?"
At least they'd managed to get the ghost they'd been hunting, before her little stunt had caved in the roof of the tunnel leading to the shelter, and the ghost-trap sat smoking by her foot, light blinking merrily away to indicate it was occupied. The shelter tunnel was accessed by a trapdoor in the main house, which they'd left open when they'd headed down here, so even though both their walkies were currently only picking up static, it wouldn't be long before Patty and Abby realised they were here.
"We'll just sit tight and wait for them to get us out, I guess." she shrugged, remarkably chilled out about the whole situation. At least the shelter was well-stocked.

Date: 2016-08-07 10:20 pm (UTC)"Huh?" She said ungracefully as she lowered her gun, her face falling. She glanced around the shelter and shook her head. "We're stuck here?"
It was as if the possibility hadn't occurred to her until just then. She shook her head and bolted past Holtzmann at the pile of cement in front of them clawing at it frantically.
"No way. No. I cannot be stuck down here." She screwed her mouth up tight and looked over her shoulder at Holtzmann. "Just push me up there. I'll dig our way out."

Date: 2016-08-08 02:45 pm (UTC)Holtzmann raised an eyebrow at Erin's sudden realisation that they were definitely stuck, shaking her head slightly in fond amusement. Erin was a smart, smart girl, but she sure could be dumb sometimes. Not like, Kevin dumb, but still pretty dense.
She leaned against the edge of some shelves and watched Erin claw frantically at the caved-in stones, the picture of relaxation but ready to leap forward if it looked like anything we going to shift and fall further, or if Erin was going to hurt herself some other way.
"Erin, you have tiny little hands and those are some very big rocks. Digging is just going to make it more unstable. Abby and Patty will find us soon, they'll get us out."

Date: 2016-08-11 02:56 am (UTC)This was what her nightmares were made of. Logically she knew that they had enough air to survive. Even that the probability of the shelter having some kind of air system was high, but she couldn't shake off the blind panic that was building in her chest.
"Can't we just blast our way out? Please? Pretty please?"

Date: 2016-08-11 03:33 pm (UTC)"Ooooh..." Holtz made a slow noise of realisation, glancing back at the rockfall as if she could suddenly see a new way out where she hadn't before. Predictably, the cave-in remained just as impassable.
"Well we...." no, she might be reckless and prone to throwing herself into messes that had a high probability of failing disastrously, usually with nuclear consequences, but this was a little more than just a high probability, it was almost certain that any attempt to break through the cave in was just going to make it worse, not without more specialised equipment that they just didn't have. She turned her attention to the proton pack, but without tools and several other components there was no way she could turn it into something that suited their purposes. She shook her head.
"No can do, there's no way to get those rocks moved without making it worse. We're just going to have to keep you distracted instead."

Date: 2016-08-15 12:47 am (UTC)"Fine," she says, her breath catching in her chest as she tries to navigate her way back down. "Just do it quick. Distract me because I'm starting to freak out."

Date: 2016-08-17 04:34 pm (UTC)"Okay...well..uh..." Holtz looked the tiniest bit panicked herself for a moment before she squashed it down. She didn't really know what to do in this situation, she was not exactly a calming individual, and Erin was so... not calm. A lot of the time. Holtzmann really didn't know how to take her oddball skillset and apply it to Erin's neurotic personality in a way that resulted in calm.
"A distraction, right, well..." she could dance, but there wasn't really any music, and she danced so often it probably wasn't special enough to get Erin's attention when she was trying to freak out. No, what she needed was something to shock Erin into calm. Perfect. Now... what would...
Bingo.
She stepped closer quickly, sliding herself into Erin's personal space without giving the other woman a chance to object. "One distraction, coming up." was all the warning Erin got, murmured in a low voice, before Holtzmann leaned in and kissed her.

Date: 2016-08-23 11:03 pm (UTC)"What are you--" She's cut off by the sudden feeling of Holtzmann's lips on hers and she freezes. One second passes and then another as she tries to process the fact that Holtzmann is kissing her.
It wasn't quite the distraction that she had in mind, but it works enough to shock her into stopping hyperventilating. Another second passes and she moves her lips against the other woman's. "Uh..." She's not sure what to say. Maybe she shouldn't say anything. Maybe she should just back away.
She swallows and pulls her lips back, studying Holtzmann's face. "Okay. That worked." She can feel the heat spreading across her face and is grateful at least that it may not be totally obvious in the darkness of the hell hole they're trapped in. She presses her lips together, reaching up to brush her finger over them, still shocked. "Okay."

Date: 2016-08-24 04:18 pm (UTC)Holtzmann was barely breathing as Erin pulled away. She hadn't done so immediately, and there had been no violence, so that was a bonus, right? Still, there was an uncertainty in the engineer's expression that didn't often make an appearance, a moment of realness similar to her toast after the events of New York. It was pasted over quickly, hiding the vulnerability as she stepped back to give Erin a little air - no use crowding her and making the claustrophobic feeling worse, not when she'd managed to successfully distract her from it once. Not that she'd mind issuing that distraction again, of course.
"Are you hungry? I'm hungry, I wonder if any of this stuff is edible. I bet it is," she turned in a rush to inspect the shelves, at a loss what to do next herself and not wanting to just stand there staring at Erin, unsure exactly what that shocked expression was going to turn into. Erin put up with her flirtations well enough, when she wasn't getting adorably flustered, but flirting and kissing were two very different things, and it wouldn't be the first time Holtz had read someone wrong and gotten a very negative reaction.

Date: 2016-08-27 01:34 am (UTC)She wasn't sure what she expected, but she thought maybe there'd be another beat of... something. She cleared her throat and moved over to Holtz's side, pretending to scan the canned goods but actually thinking about how soft the other woman's lips had been. She'd kissed a girl. Or a girl had kissed her...
Now was no time for Katy Perry songs, and yet the scientific part of her couldn't help but ask if she'd liked it? She wasn't sure. She hadn't not liked it.
She reached out and grabbed a can, weighing it in her hand before holding it up. Ew. Green Beans. "Can I ask you a question?"

Date: 2016-08-28 11:36 pm (UTC)Whenever she thought Erin wasn't looking, Holtz kept shooting the other woman sidelong looks, trying to figure out exactly how she was dealing with the aftermath of the kiss. She didn't seem to be completely freaking out, which was a good start, but she was still in enough shock that Holtzmann couldn't get a proper read.
"A question?" she turned away from the dubious can of meat she was inspecting to look properly at Erin, caution in her eyes "About what?"

Date: 2016-08-31 10:29 am (UTC)Of all the questions Holtzmann was expecting, that wasn't one of them. She hesitated for a moment before responding, expression uncharacteristically serious.
"I haven't really kept a count," she shrugged "Uh, more than three, less than twenty?" as flirtatious as she was she hadn't actually gotten that far with a lot of girls. There'd been drunken kisses on nights out, and a small handful of girlfriends (who usually ended up exasperated with her, or yelling about coming second to science, or generally just having enough of her antics), but she wouldn't say she kissed girls a lot. Not compared to some people, anyway.
"Why?"

Date: 2016-09-07 04:46 am (UTC)She forced a choppy laugh. "Just curious."

Date: 2016-09-07 04:47 pm (UTC)Holtzmann raises an eyebrow at her, a little surprised at the point when Erin finally meanders round to it, and before she can stop herself she's smiling and leaning in close.
"Mmm, I think you were pretty good but you were surprised, want to try again and see if you can do better?" She had a problem, clearly, there was just no stopping her, but honestly? Erin wasn't completely freaking out and she had soft lips and Holtz could think of much, much worse things to be doing with their time until Abby and Patty got them out.

Date: 2016-09-21 05:32 pm (UTC)Holtzmann could sense the nervousness, she couldn't quite understand exactly what was causing it but she could at least be considerate of it, so this time there was no sudden press of lips, no unexpectedness. Instead, her smile softened and she moved herself closer, slowly, like Erin was a wild animal she didn't want to startle. She wrapped an arm around the brunette's waist and gently pulled her in before tipping her head down and pressing their lips together again, slow and soft and simple.

Date: 2016-10-15 04:57 pm (UTC)Erin watched Holtz approach, her gaze following her arm as it wrapped itself around her waist. There was a part of her that almost pushed her away. What was she doing? But Holtz's confidence was enough to keep her in place as she tilted her mouth and pressed it against hers. Erin's eyes fluttered shut and she relaxed into the kiss.
For a moment the world stopped around them and Erin completely forgot that she was in a small bomb shelter that had been caved in. Her pulse jumped and she could feel her adrenaline fade away into something else. And then the moment was over. She kept her eyes closed for a moment longer before opening them and looking back at Holtz. She hummed, her throat tight.
"Interesting."

Date: 2016-10-18 10:51 am (UTC)Holtz's smile was uncharacteristically gentle as she pulled away, waiting for Erin's reaction. The kiss had been everything she'd hoped for, and much better than the first, even she could admit that. She recognised the tone in Erin's voice and her eyes glittered with amusement.
"What are your findings Dr. Gilbert? Do you think you have a large enough sample size or would you like further testing carried out?" she offered, tone impish. She thought she was beginning to get the measure of Erin, new situations were clearly assessed scientifically, Holtz suspected it was Erin's way of coping. She couldn't judge, it wasn't like she'd never done it herself.

Date: 2016-11-12 04:19 pm (UTC)Erin smiled back at Holtz, bringing her shoulder up for a half shrug. "I think we could be more thorough...."
She tilted her head slightly, leaning in for another kiss when she heard the falling of rocks and Patty's voice booming out. "Hold on, Erin and Holtzy, we're coming for ya!"
Erin straightened in surprise, moving away from Holtz as if she'd been burned. Her eyes widened in surprise as she stumbled backwards over a box and landed hard on her backside. More rocks were displaced and Abby suddenly appeared at the top.
"Are you two okay down there?'
Sorry for the wait, I am le fail.
Date: 2016-12-18 10:55 pm (UTC)Holtzmann's expression widened into a grin when Erin leaned in of her own accord, but then of course Patty had to go interrupting them and suddenly Erin was jumping back like Holtz was radioactive, and the suddenness of it made it hard for her to hide the flash of hurt that crossed her face.
She hardened her expression into something approaching unconcerned and turned to the pool of light now streaming into the tiny room, grinning up at the Abby-shaped figure in the light's centre.
"Hail the conquering heroes! We're great, just dying of boredom down here, throw me a rope or something and we can get back to business, unless you did all the busting without us already?"
