Date: 2016-07-13 12:22 pm (UTC)That makes him relax slightly, at least the car isn't stolen, and it isn't like Luther can't afford it if Tony does do something to break it. Besides, Clark isn't exactly going to care what happens to it, which altogether basically means that Tony isn't about to get into trouble if this doesn't work.
"Let's go then." he grins.

Date: 2016-07-13 12:33 pm (UTC)"THAT's the spirit. Finally looks like you've got some spark in you about this."
He closes the door once Tony's entirely in and makes his way over to the driver's side before slipping in and revving the engine. Clark rolls his eyes just a little, as if he finds the whole thing ridiculous to some degree, before pulling away from the curb and starting to navigate the city traffic.
"So clearly it's not difficult synthesize. How expensive is it to make?"
He's just curious.

Date: 2016-07-13 12:50 pm (UTC)"Hard not to in a car like this," Tony can't help but grin. It's part of the reason he even came up with the stuff, he likes going fast, the faster the better.
"Yea, that's the problem, it would be pretty expensive. I mean this," he taps the backpack "This'll be enough to entertain us for the afternoon, at least a couple of hours I think, but for something more substantial, for a decent period of time? Well, if you weren't stealing school chemicals it'd probably be in the thousands." he rethought his assessment of the price given his current company, and his own family funds "It's not a lot of money, but it's expensive for fuel."

Date: 2016-07-14 08:51 am (UTC)Tony recognises the switch, he does it himself occasionally, it's hard not to look at the business prospects of any idea with fathers like theirs.
"It probably does. It might be possible to condense it into smaller quantities that are cheaper to produce that might provide a boost of power to existing fuel. I suspect it might actually be longer lasting than conventional fuel so if it can be created more cheaply there may be a market for it for long distance travel, ships or planes maybe... not sure about the biproducts yet..."

Date: 2016-07-14 03:56 pm (UTC)And yes, he sounds excited. He doesn't care if the damn thing explodes, after all.
no subject
Date: 2016-07-14 04:20 pm (UTC)"It...might be..." Tony starts slowly, but then he realises that Clark doesn't care, in fact he's pretty sure that excitement is down to the possibility that this might be the first test "Okay, okay, it's completely theory based, it hasn't been tested at all."

Date: 2016-07-14 04:34 pm (UTC)"Perfect!"

Date: 2016-07-14 04:42 pm (UTC)Tony couldn't help but grin back, although he was a tiny bit uneasy. He'd managed to engineer himself a situation where of the three options - it works, it explodes, nothing happens - it was the 'nothing happens' that was actually the worst case here, especially as far as Clark was concerned.
...Oh well, at least if he was going to die he'd have a sort of friend.
"How far is this place?"
no subject
Date: 2016-07-14 05:08 pm (UTC)He waves that off, then looks over.
"Why, you in a rush?"
no subject
Date: 2016-07-14 09:01 pm (UTC)"No, just curious," he shrugs it off easily. He's glad they're going to somewhere probably deserted, he wasn't entirely sure that Clark would be all that fastidious about dodging pedestrians if they were driving somewhere more populated. Sometimes it was hard to tell, with Clark, just how far his morals stretched.
"It's going to be good. I hope."

Date: 2016-07-15 11:24 am (UTC)"Don't start with that nonsense. If you weren't brilliant, I wouldn't waste my time with you. It's going to be good."
He considers that for a moment, like Tony isn't even there.
"Well, you're also pretty, so I might, but I certainly wouldn't drive an hour out for it."

Date: 2016-07-15 11:54 am (UTC)Tony's not blushing, really he's not, because that would be incredibly uncool and he was a cool person. He was rich and smart and driving in a fast car with his cool friend. Who thought he was pretty.
"Well I know I'm brilliant," he tried to overcompensate with arrogance "that doesn't mean it's definitely going to work."

Date: 2016-07-15 12:41 pm (UTC)"Well, let's just hope if it does blow up we don't have to hitch a ride home again," he laughed. Admittedly they'd probably have more serious things to worry about in the event of an explosion, but he didn't want to think about that.

Date: 2016-07-15 01:46 pm (UTC)He laughs and shakes his head.
"Very interesting."

Date: 2016-07-15 02:52 pm (UTC)"Well I was trying not to think about the danger to life and limb, thanks," he shot back dryly "It should be fine though. Should be."

Date: 2016-07-15 03:05 pm (UTC)He nudges him.
"If I didn't have you around to keep me occupied, why... I might just start killing people just to see if it's any fun. I've tried everything else, after all..."
Is he kidding? ...he may not be kidding.
no subject
Date: 2016-07-15 03:19 pm (UTC)The thing was, Tony actually believed him - not about the killing part (okay, also about the killing part, worryingly), but there was something so confident about Clark, that the world was going to be the way he wanted it and nothing was going to stop him, that it made Tony actually think Clark could/i> keep him safe, even if the car did explode.
"Well then you better keep your promise. You'd go crazy in prison."

Date: 2016-07-15 03:27 pm (UTC)"It's adorable that you think I'd go to prison."

Date: 2016-07-15 03:43 pm (UTC)[italics tag fail there sorry]
"...no, no you probably wouldn't, would you?" he shakes his head despairingly.
no subject
Date: 2016-07-15 03:53 pm (UTC)"Would you?"
no subject
Date: 2016-07-15 04:01 pm (UTC)"Go to jail for murder?" he thought about it for a second and shrugged "Probably."
no subject
Date: 2016-07-15 04:08 pm (UTC)"Oh, come on. Really? Really really? No, you're not that stupid. No."
no subject
Date: 2016-07-15 04:16 pm (UTC)"Okay," Tony conceded "Maybe I'd be smart enough to get away with it."
