Before it disappears just as quick and Clark's out the door, practically disappeared.

Date: 2016-07-13 11:20 am (UTC)"What like it's a date?" Tony mutters to himself, once he's sure Clark's gone, though despite his sarcasm he isn't actually sure how he feels about that possibility. He shakes his head to clear the thought, it's a stupid one and he doesn't have time to waste brainpower on it, he's got jet fuel to make.
He makes the required trip to the chemistry lab, sneaking in to an empty one and mixing up the fuel as quickly and quietly as he can, it takes him maybe half an hour to make up the recipe he's been planning and another ten minutes to clear up after himself and hide the bottles in his backpack before heading down to the front of the school to meet Clark.

Date: 2016-07-13 11:47 am (UTC)"There you are! I was starting to think I'd have to find my own fun. Not my favorite activity, I'm afraid."
He gestures back to the car, a sleek and sporty model in a deep dark blue purple color that shifted in the light. Clearly custom, clearly expensive, and as he pressed a button on the keys and started the motor purring, clearly a beast under the hood.
"Come along. I've got a few ideas of where to go for our test."

Date: 2016-07-13 12:02 pm (UTC)Tony just shrugs. He doesn't need to forgive anything because Clark isn't his, and why would he even want him to be anyway, he's not jealous, you're jealous.
"It took a little while to get the mix just right, but I've got it now," he turns a little so Clark could see the bag he was carrying, opening his mouth to say something else but then he's distracted by the car. Because... damn. That car. Tony was equal parts horrified and impressed, because sure that was a good looking car and if anything could handle the concoction he'd brewed it was going to be a car like this, but also... well this was untested fuel, what if it couldn't handle it? That was a hell of a nice car to ruin with his hijinx... god he hoped this worked.
"What? Oh, yea, right, sorry. ... Nice car." his attempt to be 'cool' falls rather flat considering he was just staring at it and probably drooling (metaphorically. He hoped.) but he powers on through anyway and climbs into the passenger seat.

Date: 2016-07-13 12:22 pm (UTC)That makes him relax slightly, at least the car isn't stolen, and it isn't like Luther can't afford it if Tony does do something to break it. Besides, Clark isn't exactly going to care what happens to it, which altogether basically means that Tony isn't about to get into trouble if this doesn't work.
"Let's go then." he grins.

Date: 2016-07-13 12:33 pm (UTC)"THAT's the spirit. Finally looks like you've got some spark in you about this."
He closes the door once Tony's entirely in and makes his way over to the driver's side before slipping in and revving the engine. Clark rolls his eyes just a little, as if he finds the whole thing ridiculous to some degree, before pulling away from the curb and starting to navigate the city traffic.
"So clearly it's not difficult synthesize. How expensive is it to make?"
He's just curious.

Date: 2016-07-13 12:50 pm (UTC)"Hard not to in a car like this," Tony can't help but grin. It's part of the reason he even came up with the stuff, he likes going fast, the faster the better.
"Yea, that's the problem, it would be pretty expensive. I mean this," he taps the backpack "This'll be enough to entertain us for the afternoon, at least a couple of hours I think, but for something more substantial, for a decent period of time? Well, if you weren't stealing school chemicals it'd probably be in the thousands." he rethought his assessment of the price given his current company, and his own family funds "It's not a lot of money, but it's expensive for fuel."

Date: 2016-07-14 08:51 am (UTC)Tony recognises the switch, he does it himself occasionally, it's hard not to look at the business prospects of any idea with fathers like theirs.
"It probably does. It might be possible to condense it into smaller quantities that are cheaper to produce that might provide a boost of power to existing fuel. I suspect it might actually be longer lasting than conventional fuel so if it can be created more cheaply there may be a market for it for long distance travel, ships or planes maybe... not sure about the biproducts yet..."

Date: 2016-07-14 03:56 pm (UTC)And yes, he sounds excited. He doesn't care if the damn thing explodes, after all.
no subject
Date: 2016-07-14 04:20 pm (UTC)"It...might be..." Tony starts slowly, but then he realises that Clark doesn't care, in fact he's pretty sure that excitement is down to the possibility that this might be the first test "Okay, okay, it's completely theory based, it hasn't been tested at all."

Date: 2016-07-14 04:34 pm (UTC)"Perfect!"

Date: 2016-07-14 04:42 pm (UTC)Tony couldn't help but grin back, although he was a tiny bit uneasy. He'd managed to engineer himself a situation where of the three options - it works, it explodes, nothing happens - it was the 'nothing happens' that was actually the worst case here, especially as far as Clark was concerned.
...Oh well, at least if he was going to die he'd have a sort of friend.
"How far is this place?"
no subject
Date: 2016-07-14 05:08 pm (UTC)He waves that off, then looks over.
"Why, you in a rush?"
no subject
Date: 2016-07-14 09:01 pm (UTC)"No, just curious," he shrugs it off easily. He's glad they're going to somewhere probably deserted, he wasn't entirely sure that Clark would be all that fastidious about dodging pedestrians if they were driving somewhere more populated. Sometimes it was hard to tell, with Clark, just how far his morals stretched.
"It's going to be good. I hope."

Date: 2016-07-15 11:24 am (UTC)"Don't start with that nonsense. If you weren't brilliant, I wouldn't waste my time with you. It's going to be good."
He considers that for a moment, like Tony isn't even there.
"Well, you're also pretty, so I might, but I certainly wouldn't drive an hour out for it."
no subject
Date: 2016-07-15 11:54 am (UTC)Tony's not blushing, really he's not, because that would be incredibly uncool and he was a cool person. He was rich and smart and driving in a fast car with his cool friend. Who thought he was pretty.
"Well I know I'm brilliant," he tried to overcompensate with arrogance "that doesn't mean it's definitely going to work."

Date: 2016-07-15 12:41 pm (UTC)"Well, let's just hope if it does blow up we don't have to hitch a ride home again," he laughed. Admittedly they'd probably have more serious things to worry about in the event of an explosion, but he didn't want to think about that.

Date: 2016-07-15 01:46 pm (UTC)He laughs and shakes his head.
"Very interesting."

Date: 2016-07-15 02:52 pm (UTC)"Well I was trying not to think about the danger to life and limb, thanks," he shot back dryly "It should be fine though. Should be."

Date: 2016-07-15 03:05 pm (UTC)He nudges him.
"If I didn't have you around to keep me occupied, why... I might just start killing people just to see if it's any fun. I've tried everything else, after all..."
Is he kidding? ...he may not be kidding.
no subject
Date: 2016-07-15 03:19 pm (UTC)The thing was, Tony actually believed him - not about the killing part (okay, also about the killing part, worryingly), but there was something so confident about Clark, that the world was going to be the way he wanted it and nothing was going to stop him, that it made Tony actually think Clark could/i> keep him safe, even if the car did explode.
"Well then you better keep your promise. You'd go crazy in prison."

Date: 2016-07-15 03:27 pm (UTC)"It's adorable that you think I'd go to prison."
