dollymixtures | It's all coming back to me now (Spot and Bucky)

When the Hydra facility had been raided, the last thing anybody expected to find was a 16 year old kid on ice, and yet there he'd been. Steve had been the one to stop the Hydra scientist from shutting down the life support, but they hadn't got there in time to prevent the destruction of a good half the facility's records - including the ones about who the kid was or why he was there.

So what choice did they have but to wake him up and find out?

He was uncooperative at first, refused to give them any details other than the name 'Spot' and kept threatening to fight anybody that came close, though they managed to work out pretty easily that he was from Brooklyn and he'd been on the ice almost as long as Steve had. It's when he overhears a comment about Bucky that he seems to change his tune.

"Bucky Barnes?" he asks, and while he still seems wary, for the first time since he woke up he says something actually helpful "I'll talk to him. Tell him the name's Sean Conlon."

"I will, I will," Spot doesn't even protest the conditions - they're reasonable enough, Bucky and Steve are pretty insistent on making sure his homework is done anyway, and he doesn't want to get any more calls from school once he gets back.

There's practically a grin on his face as he taps back confirmation that he can go.

Bucky manages to keep his expression neutral, trying not to laugh, he has a feeling he knows what's going on, and he's pretty sure Steve is on the same page. He just hopes it's not Spot attaching to the first person that was nice to him. "What are you going to go see?" Bucky asks, opening his wallet for a moment.

"Also before I forget, was going to give it to you yesterday but then the fistfight happened." He hands Spot a plastic card, "Homework, chores, being home on time, and 30 bucks a week goes into the account." He says easily. Already put some in there to kick start the account, I'll put the app on your phone, so you can check how much you have before you use it."

"I don't know, I told Peter he can pick," movies were something Spot hadn't really gotten into yet, he has too many other things occupying his time, but he has fond memories of sneaking into the pictures back in the past so he's happy to relive that with Peter. Only this time they can actually pay - he can actually pay, he realises, when Bucky hands him the card.

He thanks Bucky, tucking the card into his pocket and then finally putting his phone down and finishes breakfast.

By the time Friday rolls around, he's managed to keep out of trouble and his nose is looking a lot better (at least, most of the swelling and bruising has gone down), he arrives back at home and barely stops to shout a greeting at Bucky and Steve before he's heading upstairs to start getting ready.

"Hi... Bye..." Bucky says not looking away from his book, Steve sitting on the couch sketching something in his book of fancy paper, fingers coated in charcoal.

"Odds of him putting on too much cologne?" Steve asks not looking up.

"80, no 90 percent," Bucky smirks. "What if we're wrong, and it's not a date?"

"Pretty sure it's a date," Steve says using his thumb to do something to one of his lines, Bucky's never sure what it does, but if things had been different Steve's work would be in the MET he's sure of it. Maybe he would have been a press photographer. He wondered where all the photos he took before the war ended up.

"Dad!" Spot's voice comes echoing down the stairs half an hour or so later (once he's showered and had a chance to to dig through his entire wardrobe) "Where's my dark blue shirt?"

There's an edge of urgency to it, like it's very important that he finds that specific shirt.

"Dryer." He calls back, looking at Steve and laughing shaking his head. "He's got it worse then you did." Bucky teases giving Steve a look.

"You mean worse than you had it," Steve says smirking.

"You stole a motorcycle, went AWOL, talked Howard Stark into stealing a plane... because you didn't believe I was dead." He points out turning the page in his book.

"You would've done the same." Steve points out.

"I would have." Bucky nods. "Should we be rude and tell him to be home by nine?"

"I was going to say 8." Steve grins.

Steve forever Bucky's little shit.

Spot half runs down the stairs and through the living room to get his shirt out the dryer, already wearing black jeans and a plain white t-shirt (because he's never gotten out of the habit of wearing an undershirt), his hair's still a little damp and kind of a mess because he hasn't styled it yet.

He appears again a few minutes later with an annoyed expression.

"It's still wet."

Steve smirks a little and lets out a sigh, "Well whose supposed turn the dryer on when doing their own laundry." he shrugs, not looking up from his drawing.

"Put it back in the drying turn the dryer on." He says, "Take off the white undershirt, put on a normal t-shirt." Bucky says turning the page in his book, stretching out on the sofa a little more. That's all the advice he's going to give unless the kid actually asks.

"I already put it back in," he scowls, flopping down onto one of the chairs since there's not much else he can do while he's waiting for his shirt to dry, other than go back upstairs and try on the three shirts he's already tried before deciding only the blue one would do.

"What's wrong with the undershirt?" he asks with a frown, looking down at himself and suddenly unsure what he's doing wrong.

"Nothing, but the movies aren't fancy anymore." Bucky explains, "Tee shirt, jeans sneakers, hoodie or sweater, jean jacket." He says tilting his head back and smiling at Spot over the arm of the couch.

"I think button-ups and undershirts are fine, but Clint told me I dress like a grandpa, but he also called Bucky a murder hippie." Steve snorts. "Find what works for you." Steve smiles

"Yep what works for you... but it's just a movie, so breath," Bucky says playing dumb.

"I ain't wearing no hoodie on a-" he stops himself, floundering for just a second before continuing "evenin' out, even if the movies ain't like that anymore."

Only now he's second guessing himself and wondering if he should wear something different, even if Steve did seem kind of on his side (and he wasn't about to take fashion advice from Clint).

"I'm breathin' fine." he snaps.

"Relax, it's not like it's a date," Bucky says and Steve chokes down a laugh, "Wear what you want but take a sweater shirt or one of your warmer jackets, supposed to start getting cold," Bucky says.

"Hmmm that sure is a lot of attitude Buck, weren't we talking about what time he needs to be home," Steve says but his voice is light and teasing.

At that, Spot actually blushes. He tries his best to pretend he isn't, but he can feel the warmth creeping into his cheeks.

"I'll take a jacket." he mumbles, looking down at the floor - until Steve speaks and his head shoots up again.

"Aw come on pop, it's a Friday night!" he's clearly not doing well with all this teasing.

Bucky looks at Steve who has that smile on his face when Spot calls him Pop, but it doesn't sway him much anymore,

"10:30ish?" He isn't talking to Spot though he's looking at Steve.

"Any later than 11 and consequences?" Steve adds.

"Sounds good." Bucky nods looking at Sean. "Got it?" He asks arching a brow.

"Fine." Spot groans, slumping down further in his chair. It's not the worst curfew, and it still gave them some time to hang after the movie if they wanted, but he still doesn't understand why his parents have to choose right now to be the worst.

"....do you really think I should wear a different shirt?"

Bucky sits up and turns to look at Sean, "Sean," Oh look your birth name, "wear what you'll be comfortable in, you're just going to go have fun, watch a movie eat some junk food." He says giving the kid an easy smile. "Spot, Peter is your friend, he's not gonna care what you're wearing." He gives Spot an easy smile, "Just go have fun." He says honestly.

Maybe it's all the teasing, maybe it's the impact of hearing his actual name, but something snaps and he runs a hand nervously through damp hair.

"It ain't just... " he starts, trailing off for a second before he bites the bullet and just comes out with it "It's a date."

"We figured," Bucky says with a smile, shaking his head. "You didn't hide it well." Steve is smiling but letting the two of them talk.

"Look be yourself, dress how you want, don't stress." He says shrugging. "You and Peter are friends, you've been hanging out a lot." he points out. "Just wear what makes you comfortable. Bet you a dollar Peter shows up in jeans and a hoodie." He says lips twitching. "But if you want to wear the blue button-up then wear it." He smiles, "But stop running around like a chicken with your head cut off, it's Peter."

"...so you's just been messing with me all evenin'?" Spot asks flatly, unimpressed. Sure, if it were anybody else he'd probably have found it funny, and maybe later he would, but right now he's just annoyed.

"Yea... I guess..." Peter looks pretty cute in a hoodie, he wouldn't mind that so much, he just really wanted this evening to go well. Technically he hasn't been on a date in nearly 70 years, only he's not going to bring that up because it sounds dumb. Technically he's never been on a date, given that he and Race weren't really able to do that kind of thing.

"Just a little bit, would you really want me to call you out on going on a date with Peter Parker? Who by the way tried to help arrest me." He says grinning at Spot. "I've forgiven him though." He laughs softly.

"Sean just be yourself." He says easily. "He's already your friend, does he know this is a date?" He asks.

"Yea... he, uh, he asked me actually..." Spot admits. He'd been trying to make a move on Peter for weeks, but he'd been a little too subtle, used a few too many euphemisms that had long gone out of fashion. Between the dramatic defending of his honour and some creative googling, Peter had finally got the message - and then immediately been the one to make the first proper move.

"The spider is growing up." Bucky smiles a little, "Just have fun tonight, he asked you out, which means you don't have to change or worry about anything." Bucky reaches out and ruffles Sean's damp hair. "It's a movie, and whatever food you two are gonna shove in your faces, first dates are always weird." He shrugs.

"Look just be safe, have fun." Bucky shrugs.

"and be home before 11." Steve tags on, smiling at Sean.

Bucky laughs at the blonde, "That too."

"Okay, okay, I'll be home by eleven," Spot rolls his eyes, though the expression on his face is fond.

"...thanks." he adds, since the advice is actually pretty good.

"I'm gonna go check on my shirt." he decides, shoving himself to his feet

Bucky picks back up his book and stretches out across the couch again. “We have a fucking real teenager.” Bucky says to Steve looking over the arm of the couch making his hair hang.

“Right... and we’re only technically 25...” Steve goes back to his drawing, “If we came back... when he was 15 we woulda been 37.” Bucky adds with a soft laugh, But it’s weird to think about Spot was only around 3 when he died and Steve went into the ice.

He wonders what happened to Molly why the kid put her through so much hell, but seems to have evened out for them. It doesn’t feel fair to Buck. He’d been scared to track her down a year ago. But maybe nows the time.
